Elementary to Dixie State College

If education is the hope of the future, then the future of the St George area is assured. The 30 schools of the Washington County School District produce students with a desire to learn. Building on earlier successes, high school students score well in national competitions and have nearly a 93% graduation rate. An astonishing 87% of high school graduates plan to continue their education after high school.
Dedicated educators, a supportive community and a variety of advance placement and honors programs provide a national average of 21.0, and the average for Washington County School District is 21.1.

For nearly 60 percent of local high school students, Dixie State College of Utah is the first stop on their higher education journey. Founded in 1911,and built on the site of the first pioneer encampment, DSC has an enrollment of more than 7,500 students. St George's spectacular setting provides the backdrop for outstanding academic programs.
Four-Year Programs
Students can earn four-year bachelor degrees in business, computer and information systems, nursing and elementary education. Associate degree programs in the liberal arts, health, sciences, business, and computers are also available. For those pursuing career training, DSC offers vocational and technical courses in drafting and architecture, graphic design, automotive technologies and more. A top-ranked dental hygiene program is also offered.
Additional Degrees

Area residents can earn additional four-year and master’s degrees through the Dixie State University Center. Programs through Southern Utah University and Utah State University are available at Dixie State. The University Center allows Dixie State grads and area residents to take upper level classes without leaving St. George.
Athletics
DSC’s athletic programs are affiliated with the National Junior College Athletic Association. Many of these programs are consistently ranked nationally. Each of DSC's eight athletic programs appeared in the national polls in 2002-03. The men's basketball team ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA.
Business and Cultural Enhancements
Community involvement is a key part of the Dixie State College success story. The Dixie Business Alliance and the Washington County Council call DSC home. The college provides many cultural opportunities for the community with Dixie State Theatre, Dixie State College Celebrity Concert Series, the Southwest Symphony and Chorale and other events.
Institute for Continued Learning
For older learners, Dixie State College offers the Institute for Continued Learning (ICL). ICL is a chartered club on the campus for learners in retirement. The organization has been conceived and developed by its retired and semi-retired volunteers. The ICL provides an outlet for creative energies and involvement in college life without the constraints of tests, grades or earning credits. Programs include lectures, study and discussion groups, educational trips, luncheons, and special events conducted during daytime hours.
Dixie Applied Technology College (DXATC)
A partnership has been formed between Dixie State College and the new Dixie Applied Technology College (DXATC), a regional subsidiary of the newly created Utah College of Applied Technology. DXATC is headquartered on the Dixie State campus, and many of the courses offered through DXATC are currently available at Dixie State College. Programs available through DXATC include building construction, cabinet making, CISCO, cosmetology, diesel mechanics, office administration, and welding. The University of Phoenix has emerged as an institution of higher learning dedicated to the needs of working adults. Scheduling systems honor the time constraints involved in returning to school while holding down a full-time job. The American Institute of Medical Dental Technology, Utah's Premier Health Career College since 1979, offers short-term vocational training that prepares graduates for the real workplace. St. George offers Medical and Dental Assisting, Pharmacy Technician, and Medical-Dental Office Management. Provo Campus also offers Dental Lab, Surgical, and Ophthalmic Assisting.
